Davison High School Varsity Boys' Soccer Coach Marc Pittenger will now also lead the Varsity Girls’ Soccer program.

Pittenger, a science teacher at Davison High School, said he is looking forward to the challenge of coaching both teams.

“My goal is to connect the entire Davison soccer program through the boys and girls from top to bottom and build two successful soccer programs,” Pittenger said. “The off season in between the boys’ and girls’ soccer seasons will allow me to catch my breath and gear up for each season. I will use this opportunity to the advantage of both programs by combining camps and individual work to improve each player’s skills, which will in turn improve both soccer programs.”

Pittenger has served as the head coach for the Lapeer West varsity girls’ soccer team for the last three years. Prior to coaching at Lapeer West, Pittenger was an assistant varsity girls’ soccer coach at LakeVille from 2003 to 2006. He also was LakeVille’s assistant varsity boys’ soccer coach in 2002. He was named varsity boys’ soccer coach at Davison High School last March.

“It’s great to have a guy on staff who has high expectations like Marc ,” said Assistant Superintendent Eric Lieske. “I expect to see him take over the boys’ and girls’ soccer programs and build a systematic approach to a successful soccer program in Davison. I have no doubt that AYSO players will even be seeing Marc on the soccer fields on the weekends in the spring.”

“Marc has established himself with the boys’ program,” said Athletic Director Josh Wallberg. “ We think he’s the right guy to build the program and establish a positive program for the girls and the soccer program for years to come.” A 2000 LakeVille High School graduate, Pittenger was a three-year varsity starter on his high school soccer team and was named Honorable Mention All-State and Academic All-State. During his junior year, he scored 20 goals and had 13 assists.

“Being a teacher, I look forward to instilling a competitive fire by challenging my athletes on and off the playing field,” Pittenger said. “The game of life is the real importance of our jobs as coaches and educators. Our athletes in both programs will be taught to exemplify the ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship and hard work through the game of soccer.”
