Letter from the Superintendent Re: Incident at DHS
March 4, 2010

Parents,

We want to inform you of an incident that occurred Wednesday at Davison High School.

Two students reported that a male student had showed a piece of paper that he referred to as a “hit list” while on the bus. Our high school administrators investigated immediately and located the list, which had been ripped up. Once the list was taped back together, our administrators determined the list had been compiled by two boys. It included the names of about 70 students and staff members.

We have contacted or left messages with the parents of those students whose names appeared on the list. Staff members whose names appeared on the list have also been notified. We are confident that these children – as well as all Davison students and staff – are safe.

At this time, both school officials and Davison Township Police believe that the threat is not credible. However, please be assured that we are taking this matter very seriously and the District will not tolerate such behavior.

Please know that your child’s safety is of our utmost importance. The boys were removed from school by the police and are currently not attending classes. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate discipline and possible criminal charges will be administered.

We are very appreciative of the quick action taken by the students who brought this matter to our attention. Because of their actions, the District was able to deal with this incident swiftly.

If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Kevin Brown, Principal, at Davison High School at 591-3539; Mrs. Donna Whitley, Director of Special Services, at 591-0913; or Mrs. Michelle Edwards, Director of Public Information at 591-0852.

Sincerely,

Clay Perkins, Superintendent
