Davison Board of Education members have named Assistant Superintendent Eric Lieske as the district’s next Superintendent. Mr. Lieske will replace Superintendent Clay Perkins, who is retiring this summer after a 36-year career in education.

“Eric has proven himself as an outstanding teacher and administrator during his career here at Davison,” said Board President Kathy Sudia. “We believe he is the right person to lead this district, and we are confident that he will continue to keep moving this district forward in terms of student achievement, maximizing our resources and maintaining a safe environment.”

Board Personnel Committee Chairwoman Karen Conover noted that Mr. Lieske was instrumental in the district receiving District Accreditation by AdvancED last year.

“That was a huge undertaking,” she said.

Mrs. Conover noted that Eric is also responsible for developing and instituting new programs such as Junior First Grade at Thomson Elementary, bringing the Great Start Readiness Program in-district and hiring Literacy Specialists to help struggling readers in the the K-6 grade levels.

“The Personnel Committee unanimously agrees that Eric is more than competent and ready for this position,” Mrs. Conover said. “He is a visionary and a great problem-solver.”

“I’m very pleased for both Eric and the school district,” Superintendent Perkins added. “Eric has tremendous abilities and skills that will, I’m sure, take this district to the highest levels in the future. I congratulate him and know that he will do a great job.”

Mr. Lieske began his career at Davison Community Schools in 1997 as a teacher. He taught fifth grade for four years before he was promoted to Assistant Principal at Hahn Intermediate. In 2003, Mr. Lieske became assistant principal at Davison Middle School and was named principal at Central Elementary the following year. He served as principal there for three years until he was named Assistant Superintendent in 2007.

“I am very excited about this opportunity and appreciate the level of confidence the board has placed in me,” Mr. Lieske said. “I think Superintendent Clay Perkins’ leadership has set the bar for excellence and you can be assured that I will give 110 percent effort to continue raising that bar for students, staff and our community. Kids will continue to be the number one priority of this school district.”

Eric and his wife, Emily, have a daughter, Mara, 7. In his spare time, Eric enjoys spending time with his family, hunting and traveling.
