Each year millions of pounds of paper are used by school districts nationwide. In fact, even with computers so prevalent in schools and other offices, the amount of paper used is staggering. This paper is often just thrown away once the task is completed and it ends up sitting in landfills for years.
Starting in the fall of 2006, DTV saw the need for a recycling program to conquer the vast amount of paper that was being thrown away. Since that time, DTV has collected recycling (paper, plastic and cardboard) from all over Davison High School (DHS) and the district's administration building. At this time, close to 100 tons of potential waste at DHS has been diverted from landfills to recycling plants like the one pictured above.
Each week a trip is made to the recycling plant using the DTV van. It is often filled to the brim with recyclable materials. It is the dream of the DTV staff and students to get a recycling program started at each individual school within the district.
