DTV Interns Stepping Out
This Summer DTV Interns have stepped out of the comfortable confines of the classrooms and college campuses to take a shot in the real world. Former DTV student and current MSU student Nick Baker Landed an internship with CBS News in New York. Baker is spending his summer in the 'Big Apple' working on the show 48 Hours Mysteries. CMU student Jeff Hollis is working with the Great Lakes Loons minor league baseball team. Hollis is running the 'in-stadium' camera and scoreboard functions at the team's home games this summer. Current DTV students Andrew Gerber and Aaron Snyder also earned internships this summer. Gerber is working with the WWBN the banana 101 radio station in Flint. He hopes to turn the internship into a paid position in the fall. Snyder scored an apprenticeship with the Detroit Free Press. He has already had several articles printed and is learning at a quick pace. Congratulations to all or our interns!!!!
For the fourth straight year DTV received the Spartan Award from MIPA Organization (Michigan Interscholastic Press Association). The award is given to only the best high school news programs in the state. DTV was the only school who received the award this year. DTV is led by seniors Katie Ponitowski, Sam Hannum, Jeff Perry, and Executive Producer Kellie Rowe. "I never thought we would be this successful in my high school career" said Rowe. DTV also won a host of individual awards including; 1st place: Ethan Hall Personality Profile, Christina Bishop Editorial, Sports Story Andrew Gerber, Katie Ponitowski Field Reporter, Hannah Hall News story, Jeff Perry Open & LIve Sports Announcer, Aaron Snyder & Juan McNeely Music Video and PSA. "Operation Energy" in Full Swing
DTV student have begun their month long campaign to clean up the world and fight the energy crisis. Operation Energy was launched on March 3rd and since then DTV has been working to inform the community of the issues surrounding the energy crisis. Every day the students air energy saving tips on DTV news and they are busy editing a half hour Earth Day television special. There is also a Operation Energy information center set up in front of the high schools main office where you can get tips on how to save energy here and at home. You can also recycle plastic bottles and old cell phones. Stop by and check it out...DTV brings you Operation Energy Earth Day 2010.

DTV Named "Station of the Year"
Lansing, MI
For the second straight year DTV was named the high school of the year by the Michigan association of Broadcasters. The award was given out at the MAB conference in Lansing. The award is based on all the overall performance of the station. It takes into account Newscasts, sports coverage, psa's, and the stations activities report. It's a great honor to receive this award for the second straight year!

DTV Launches "Operation Energy"
Help DTV go green. DTV is launching a new initiative to make the schools and community a greener, more sustainable place. The goal of Operation Energy is to educate the community on the energy crisis, and to do what we can to help bring energy usage down in our schools. Throughout March and April, DTV will bring you tips on how to save energy and ask everyone in the community and schools to pitch in and help bring energy usage down. Less energy use means lower bills and less pollution. It's a win for everybody involved. Operation Energy will culminate in a half hour special airing on DTV on Earth Day April 20, 2010.

Prescription Drug Video Unveiled
Davison, MI
Students from the High School, Middle School & the Alternative Ed. all watched a special presentation of the DTV video "A RX for trouble". The video was created by the DTV crew over the summer and focuses on the growing problem of prescription drug abuse. It is based on the true story of a Davison student who was expelled for distributing and using prescription drugs. The video was produced in conjunction with the prescription drug task force made up of local doctors, pharmacists, law enforcement officers, judges, and school officials. DTV Moves From 19 to 99
Davison, MI
On December 1st DTV made the change from charter cable 19 to channel 99. Charter Cable of Davison moved DTV to channel 99 in order to add some new channels. The move will not effect viewer numbers. If you subscribe to basic Charter cable in the Davison area you will still be able to catch all of your favorite DTV programs, just tune in to channel 99.

DTV Instructor wins 'HS Teacher of the Year'

Teachers are nominated by anyone in the community, in this case fellow DHS staff member Robert Belprez nominated Randy for his hard work and dedication. Staff then has the opportunity to vote after the nominations are turned in.
For the first time in the awards history, Randy actually tied in the number of votes received with fellow teacher Brooke Davis. This is a great honor for both teachers, and especially Randy who began teaching after working as a video journalist for nearly a decade.
DTV News Wins DAFT 'Best in Show'
Detroit, MI
To close out another year of winning awards, DTV was contacted by the Digital Film, Arts & Television organization announcing that the Daily Newscast submitted to the contest won 'Best in Show' beating out over a hundred other entries in the annual contest.
This is the third year in a row that DTV has captured this award.

DTV announces 'Old School Week'
Davison, MI
For the fifth year in a row DTV will hold 'Old School Week' starting today May 11. 'Old School Week' is an opportunity for former DTV students to come back for the day, anchor, and speak with current students about what opportunities exist outside of the Davison Area.
This year there is expected to be 13 returning students who have all graduated in the last three years. The one exception is a video that is to be played on Thursday from 2003 graduate Autumn Perry, who now works at WCYB in Bristol, Virginia (Read Autumn's Profile in the About Section under Alumni).
DTV News will air at its regular time all week, 1:30pm so make sure to tune in and catch up with some of your favorite DTV reporters.

DTV NAMED STATION OF THE YEAR
Grand Rapids, MI
“It was a true team effort that really showcased all of our students and all of their talents,” said DTV Instructor Randy Scott. “It’s good to see everything coming together for this award, and it was good to see the students’ faces when they won.”
In addition to Station of the Year, DTV was named Best Newscast in the state for the third consecutive year.
“The students strive for this award every year but the best part is that they are constantly pushing the limits of what they can do,” Scott said. “Every year is a surprise. The DTV kids are always raising the bar for themselves and the program. It will be interesting to see what they're going to do next.”
Individual awards went to:
Jessica Bredenstein, second place for public service announcement.
DTV Promotions Crew, second place in the station activities report.
Granger Stefanko, honorable mention for news feature.
Ethan Hall and Tony Campbell, second place for Sports Play by Play.
Chelsea Coots was also awarded with a $500 scholarship from the MAB.
