Chirp Sheet (formerly Building Beat)
An electronic newsletter publicizing the great things happening in our schools!
2024-25
March 14, 2025
Maybe it was the time change or the lunar eclipse, but it sure seemed like a longer than normal week. But that is a good thing because we had a lot of cool things happening across the District. So many things, in fact, that we decided to save some stories/articles (like Pi Day, DHS Students of the Month, 1st Semester Honor Roll) for next week's Chirp Sheet. Today, however, we will join varsity football players as they read to students at Central and Hill elementary buildings as part of Reading Month activities. You will also meet Taylor Pung, a fourth grader at Central Elementary who is tearing it up on the gymnastics mat. She thinks it is so cool that her classmates support and encourage her as she prepares for hopefully another state championship win. There is also exciting news coming out of Davison High School, which has once again earned certification as an Official Michigan Green School. You will be so impressed to read about all of the activities that students have been involved in in order to attain "Evergreen" status. DHS Principal Jerry Piger also traded his suit jacket for hospital scrubs and gloves as he joined Health Sciences II students in learning how to intubate a pig's lungs. We also share the names of the winners of the bookmark contest at Davison Middle School and let you know how you can get the rundown on the winter sports season as Athletic Director Dave Beamer revives his Maroon and Gold Connection newsletter.

Well, it has been another great week full of accomplishments at DCS. In today's Chirp Sheet you will learn about local efforts to focus on substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion - and what you can do to help. You may also get a little jealous after reading about DHS Spanish students who spent their intersession kayaking, zip-lining and snorkeling with sea turtles and dolphins in sunny Puerto Rico while practicing their Spanish in real-life situations. We also recognize the 60+ students who were inducted into the National Honor Society this week as well as students of the month from Central, Gates, Siple and Thomson elementary buildings. Some of our Central students had the opportunity to showcase their science and engineering projects at a recent Flint Firebirds STEAM night, Hahn Intermediate students had lunch with some local heroes and the House of Cards Robotics Team competed in its first District competition. The world of sports has also been wildly successful - the girls' basketball team continues tonight in its bid for the District Title, Powerlifters are headed to state finals this weekend and nationals later this month, our boys' swimmers came home after last weekend's SVL finals with three broken school records, a sixth place finish for the team and three moving onto MHSAA Division I state finals. We also have eight All-State wrestlers and one All State and DI Runner Up in the individual Boys' Bowling competition. The spring sports season at Davison High School also starts next week; find out where and when tryouts are being held.
February 28, 2025
Let's end the month of February by taking a look at a very successful week in Athletics and looking forward to what March has in store with Reading Month activities (like book fairs, theme-days, read-a-thon, book mark contests, etc.). Also, if you are a senior getting ready to graduate, March is the month to finish up those scholarship applications for your chance in getting some local financial assistance. In today's Chirp Sheet you will also learn why the Cardinal Shop will be recognized at the DECA’s International Career Development Conference April 26-29, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. And speaking of DECA, find out which students have qualified to compete at the state conference in March. You will also find out which students were nominated - and selected - for Student of the Month at Davison Middle School and who is serving on the third marking period Safety Patrol at Hill Elementary. Plus - it's time to sign up for youth baseball league through DCER and don't miss out on one last chance to share your thoughts on our preschool survey.

You will also meet Porter, an Auto Tech II student who just won $500 for himself and his class by answering questions correctly on a website for auto students, and find out which students from Davison High School and Davison Alternative Education were named Students of the Month for February. We also share the link to our video capturing our 100th Day of School celebrations last week as well as some Staff Shout Outs to recognize some of our outstanding employees who consistently go above and beyond. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, find out who can get in free to home basketball games during intersession (beginning with tonight's game!). P.S. And just because we had to take a short break to get the website launched, there were still some pretty awesome things going on in our buildings and throughout the district. We've tried to catch up as much as we could in today's edition but we had to save some of it for next time or we'd end up with a 50-page publication (and while that's a good thing!, it's a bit cumbersome to read!). As always, if you have an idea for a story or an opportunity for me to get some cool pictures, please let me know!
