Maybe it was the time change or the lunar eclipse, but it sure seemed like a longer than normal week. But that is a good thing because we had a lot of cool things happening across the District. So many things, in fact, that we decided to save some stories/articles (like Pi Day, DHS Students of the Month, 1st Semester Honor Roll) for next week's Chirp Sheet. Today, however, we will join varsity football players as they read to students at Central and Hill elementary buildings as part of Reading Month activities. You will also meet Taylor Pung, a fourth grader at Central Elementary who is tearing it up on the gymnastics mat. She thinks it is so cool that her classmates support and encourage her as she prepares for hopefully another state championship win. There is also exciting news coming out of Davison High School, which has once again earned certification as an Official Michigan Green School. You will be so impressed to read about all of the activities that students have been involved in in order to attain "Evergreen" status. DHS Principal Jerry Piger also traded his suit jacket for hospital scrubs and gloves as he joined Health Sciences II students in learning how to intubate a pig's lungs. We also share the names of the winners of the bookmark contest at Davison Middle School and let you know how you can get the rundown on the winter sports season as Athletic Director Dave Beamer revives his Maroon and Gold Connection newsletter.

Some of our Central students had the opportunity to showcase their science and engineering projects at a recent Flint Firebirds STEAM night, Hahn Intermediate students had lunch with some local heroes and the House of Cards Robotics Team competed in its first District competition. And just because we had to take a short break to get the website launched, there were still some pretty awesome things going on in our buildings and throughout the district. We've tried to catch up as much as we could in today's edition but we had to save some of it for next time or we'd end up with a 50-page publication (and while that's a good thing!, it's a bit cumbersome to read!). As always, if you have an idea for a story or an opportunity for me to get some cool pictures, please let me know!
