Ron Jacobs Named as Next Principal for Davison High School

Davison High School’s new principal Ron Jacobs, a self-described “transformational leader,” looks forward to becoming part of a community that puts kids first.

Jacobs, principal of Adrian High School for the past two years, will replace Sue Kenkel, who is retiring at the end of August following a 34-year career in education.

“Ron brings a wealth of experience with him,” Superintendent Kevin Brown said. “He was a classroom teacher for seven years and has spent the last 12 years of his educational career in school administration. Ron is student-centered and believes in the District’s “kids first” mission. He is very knowledgeable in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment and has experience leading a high school having been the principal at Adrian for the past two years. We are excited to welcome Ron to DHS.”

“Ron comes to Davison with experience and knowledge of many of the facets of education that we in Davison Community Schools have come to value,” said Assistant Superintendent Matt Lobban.  “He has a  passion for putting kids first and building relationships that foster a positive culture for learning and a strong sense of community.  Throughout his career he has led many academic, instructional and cultural initiatives for change in the districts he has worked in.  I'm confident that Mr. Jacobs, along with the DHS staff, will continue to improve on our ability to provide DHS students with high quality educational experiences that will ultimately set students up for a successful future. “

Jacobs completed his student teaching at Southwestern Academy and Swartz Creek High School. He earned his teaching certificate in 2000 and accepted his first teaching position with Muskegon Public Schools that fall. In 2003 Jacobs returned to school and in 2007 he earned his master of arts degree in educational leadership with a focus in K-12 School Principal Leadership from Western Michigan University. In 2007 he accepted the job of Assistant Principal at Carlson High School in the Gibraltar School District and spent 10 years in that position before being named the Principal at Adrian High School in 2017.

As a transformational leader, Jacobs said he looks forward to working with stakeholders to identify needs and create a vision for student learning at Davison High School.

“I look forward to supporting and inspiring our students to become 21st-century college and career ready,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs, a native of the Corunna area, is married to Kelly and they have a 3-year-old son, Ronan. He enjoys traveling and attending Broadway shows with his wife and visiting water parks with his adventurous son. The family is looking for a home in Davison.

“I am super excited that I will be close to my family,” he said. “My parents and my in-laws all live in Corunna and my son will now be able to see his grandparents more than twice a year.”
