Letter to DCS Families About GCHD Health Order Update
November 15, 2021
Dear DCS Families:
This afternoon we learned that the Genesee County Health Department is updating its mask mandate and will no longer require that masks be worn by students ages 5 and up, staff members and visitors in educational settings as of Monday, December 22.
The mandate still applies in all classrooms or other activities in an educational setting that includes a child below the age of 5. That order will continue to be in place with the same guidelines as in the September 13, 2021, update, until six weeks after the vaccine is available for all ages in that classroom or activity, or until community transmission is moderate or low for at least two weeks.
In light of this new information, students ages 5 and above and staff will no longer be required to wear a mask at Davison Community Schools when they return to school on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. The decision as to whether or not to wear a mask while in the school setting will be up to each individual. Parents, please discuss with your child what your expectations will be so it is clear to your student. It is especially important that we all remain respectful of each individual’s choice in this matter.
Students under the age of 5 in our preschool programs, as well as staff in those programs, will be required to continue wearing masks, per the Genesee County Health Department order.
At this time, we do not have any more information from the Health Department as to how the District will be required to handle identifying close contacts of individuals testing positive, those individuals who are symptomatic and quarantining procedures after December 22. We have been told those details will be forthcoming and we will share them once we have the details.
Thank you for your support.
Kevin Brown, Superintendent
