Deadline to register for Fall Intersession is September 26

School may have just started but we are already at work planning for the fall Intersession, which will be held Monday, October 30, through Thursday, November 2.

Intersession is an optional program for students to experience learning in a non-traditional environment. While some students prefer the break from school, we have a number of kids who like the routine of school and the opportunity to meet new friends in their grade levels from across the district.

There is a fee of $80 per student (maximum of $240 for students with four or more children) to help cover costs of instruction, field trips and materials.

At the elementary level (Developmental Kindergarten to grade four) the theme will be "Autumn Adventures." The week will include a nature scavenger hunt, learning about the life cycles of apples and pumpkins and the changing seasons and enjoying some apple and pumpkin recipes. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in crafts and make homemade bird feeders, leaf art and scarecrows. Last but not least, students will also investigate what happens to insects when the weather begins to cool. Special guest Genot Picor, a Native American storyteller, will also visit, and there will be field trips to the Flint Children's Center, Rollhaven Skate Center, Flushing Farms and the Williams Nature Center.

The fall elementary intersession will be held at Central Elementary.

At the Middle Level Intersession, grades 5-8, the theme will be "Happy Fall, Y'all! Students will take a fall hike and participate in a scarecrow decorating contest at ForMar Nature Preserve, and take a field trip to Spicer's Orchard for a tractor ride to pick pumpkins and enjoy cider and donuts before coming back to school to decorate their pumpkins. The week's itinerary also includes a fall hike, leaf collecting, chromatography experiment and making tie-dye shirts at the Williams Nature Preserve and traveling to the Sloan Museum to see the Human Body exhibit.

Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge each day for all intersession students.

Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 26.

We are still working on the high school intersession offerings and will share those with you once they are completed.

Flyers for the KK-4th and 5th-8th grade Intersession programs are attached.
